Why old stains resist, and which kind you actually have
Almost every "impossible" carpet stain is one of three things, and they need completely different responses.
1. It's still just soil. The stain material is physically lodged in the fibers, dried and bound but chemically unchanged. These come out. They need heat to soften the bond, the right chemistry to break it, and enough dwell time to work. Most old food, drink, mud, and grease stains are in this category.

Match the chemistry before you buy the machine
